Siri on your other iDevices?

Spire, the best Siri port available for older iOS devices, has been quite a hit amongst those wielding jailbroken devices. However, there is a moderate amount of configuration required in order to get things up and running – namely getting hold of the required authentication data from a real iPhone 4S.

Of course, if you cannot access said files from a specimen of the fruit company’s latest smartphone, there are alternatives out there vying for the Siri crown. That said, nothing truly compares to the real thing, and this latest tweak, called AssistantConnect4S, allows iPhone 4S users to send their authentication info to non-iPhone 4S devices quickly and simply via email.

It allows them to view their children’s entire browsing activity, including which sites that visit, what they search for and who they’re texting.

They can block access to certain websites and can even block communication with individual people through SMS and MMS messages. How to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 With Absinthe for Windows

Alright all of you Windows users, as promised, the Chronic Dev Team has just released a Windows version of its new jailbreak utility, Absinthe. The software works on both the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

The program is pretty straight-forward. So if you’re a veteran jailbreaker, feel free to grab Absinthe from our Downloads page and get started. But for those looking for help, here’s an easy to follow step-by-step tutorial…

Before we get started, you’ll need to make sure that your iPad 2 is on iOS 5.0.1 (iPhone 4S users can be on 5.0 or 5.0.1). You can find that out by going to Settings > General > About. It should say what firmware your on under Version.

Now onto the jailbreaking!

Step 1. Grab Absinthe for Windows from our Downloads page. Once it’s finished downloading, unzip the file and then open it as an administrator.

Step 2. Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your computer via its USB cable.

Step 3. Once Absinthe has recognized that there is a device connected to your computer, click the Jailbreak button.

Step 4. After the program is done running (and not a second before), go to your device’s home screen and locate the Absinthe icon. Click it. This executes the final stage of the jailbreak.

Step 5. Once that’s finished, your device should restart itself. And you should notice that the Cydia icon has replaced the Absinthe one. Enjoy.

If you get the “Error Establishing Database Connection” error, don’t worry, we have a fix for that. We also have a list of some Common Jailbreak Issues, and how to solve them. Otherwise, you shouldn’t run into any problems.

Absinthe For Windows Now Available for Download

Absinthe – the graphical user interface jailbreak tool is now available for Windows machines. Previously only available for the Mac, the jailbreak tool makes it extremely easy to jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 in a matter of minutes.

Windows users have had another option to hold them over in the meantime; the iPhone Dev Team released a command line utility that worked well, but could prove to be daunting for some users. Thankfully that is no longer an issue with Absinthe for Windows…

If you’re a Windows user looking to jailbreak your A5 device, this is your best option. The app is exactly like its Mac counterpart, allowing you to load the untethered exploit onto your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S in a matter of minutes using an easy to use graphical interface.

As we’ve mentioned before, the new jailbreak works with the iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1, and the iPhone 4S running both iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1. And remember, those planning on unlocking their iPhones in the future, should stay on iOS 5.0.

If you feel like you know what you’re doing, you can grab Absinthe for Windows Here and get started. If not, stay tuned. We should have our step-by-step tutorial for Absinthe for Windows up shortly.

Jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 Untethered On iOS 5.0.1 Using Absinthe (Mac Only)

The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners waited patiently, then they waited some more, and finally after a little more waiting welcomed the Absinthe jailbreak software to the community. Produced by the famous Chronic Development Team, and supported by the conjoined efforts of Pod2g and the iPhone Dev Team, Absinthe offers users the ability to jailbreak iOS 5 and 5.0.1 into an untethered state.

The supported devices and firmware for Absinthe are:

iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1

A considerable amount of effort has been put into ensuring Absinthe is of the highest possible quality, but be aware that unforeseen bugs may exist due to this being the first time the development teams have used the backup / restore process within iTunes to install software, in other words; the jailbreak process is something which is alien to all. If you are an iPhone 4S owner who is ultimately looking to achieve a software based unlock, it is also worth heeding the advice given by the iPhone Dev-Team and remaining on iOS 5.0 if possible.

We can’t emphasize more on the fact for iPhone 4S users who are willing to unlock their devices on iOS 5. It’s a safe bet that you do not update to iOS 5.0.1 in any case as the unlock tool in development will not be compatible with iOS 5.0.1 upon release, hence stay on iOS 5 if possible since the original release of iOS 5 which was pushed out in October is not being signed by Apple anymore, therefore you cannot downgrade your iPhone 4S to iOS 5.0.1 along with your sacrificed baseband.

As mentioned by the Chronic Dev Team on their official blog post regarding the jailbreak itself, the tool is as ever simple to use and is a one click heaven for those yearning for a quick jailbreak.

Download Absinthe for Mac.

Windows and Linux versions of the tool will be available in a short while. Stay tuned for a complete step by step guide on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.x untethered along with a video walkthrough.

Its better for our readers to wait for a complete step-by-step guide on how to jailbreak their iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1. Those of you who have A4 devices and below like iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touch 4G can follow our detailed guide posted for untether jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w.
